Christmas show and Bad set

     I was in a Christmas show for the school. Half of the time Dexie said I was going down ( at least it started in the 200s ). Well finally it went up again.

     Then, yesterday when we changed my set and it really stung. Then I pulled it off and it came right off like it didn't even stick. Then it gushed blood. Now I have a new set though

Craziness

Today was crazy because of my pump and CGM. First my pump alarms low battery. I go to the nurse and it's like she thinks changing an insulin pump battery isn't important. Well, at least we got it done. Then later Dexie buzzes 80, LOW. I don't feel shaky, I thought. 5 minutes later- Now I feel shaky. I go to the nurses office again and I have to stay for the rest of the day.

Cold

I have a cold so I am in bed today. My cat is on the bed with me though. She is kneeding the blanket on the bed. Today I've been working on my color-by-number of a kitten looking at a butterfly. It's cute. I'll be back in school tomorrow though ( enless something else happens ).

Ready for Christmas

I'm ready for Christmas already but it's still a month away. Oh, well. At least we have the Christmas tree up. Today at lunch when my dad was bolusing me, he thought the ratio was 1:10 so he gives me 7.3 units. Then my mom checks the history and sees that and it turns out the ratio was 1:18. So my mom does calculations and finds out that I need 60 more carbs. So I eat a Fig Newton and chocolate graham crackers with marshmallows

Another Spelling Bee

  I was in a spelling bee today! I stayed in till I think the 4th round. I got out for astrophysiscist. What kind of word is that? The winning word was servallance. I was one of the last 6th graders though. The last two people couldn't spell chihuahua even though it's so easy. I can't wait for the next spelling bee!

Thanksgiving

   Thanksgiving is almost here! I love the food ( and the days off from school ).

   I'm gonna get new glasses soon. I don't know what they will look like though. I don't even know why I'm talking about glasses. Color time! THIS IS AN AWESOME COLOR. Sorry this is such a short blog but I don't know what to talk about.

Dexie is CRAZY

My cgm is so wacky. When I was about to leave school, vibrating, Dexie says LOW under 55. What the heck. It says 51 and down. So when my mom picks me up, I say it says 51 and down. We go out to the car and we test my BG. 95. Stupid Dexie! We put that in and it says no, your 62 and down. It can be so annoying sometimes yet so useful others.

CGM

   About a month ago I got a cgm ( continuous glucose moniter ).We named it Dexie. It's AWESOME yet crazy. The first night I slept with it on, it went crazy. First it said 65 and down. About a half hour later it says 345 and up. My mom had to test me alot that night to correct it. Really I was in the 100s all night.

   Last night my blood sugar got low. I had to eat 3 packs of Smarties. I didn't feel good after that. So after that my parents said that I could have chocolate milk instead of Smarties. Yay!

Diabetes month

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. Happy diabetes month! This is the first diabetes month ever. I guess your supposed to wear blue every Friday ( blue is the diabetes color ). I can't believe it has already snowed! I love to play out in the snow, but after about an hour my blood sugar gets low. That's ok though because then I get to come in and have hot chocolate!

Stomach bug

This weekend I have a stomach bug. Last night I spent the night in the hospital because I kept thowing up everytime I stood up and I couldn't drink water with out throwing up.When I went to the hospital they took me back right away when my mom said I have keytones. I got an IV with I think saline and and a medicine to calm my belly down so I wouldn't keep throwing up. When I had to go to the bathroom they had to unhook all of my wires exept my IV. I'm just glad it was a 24 hour stomach bug.  

Blog Week

I know, I didn't post a blog all blog week.

Last week my dad went to Orlando (Florida). I missed him, but my mom got to take me to school everyday. That means i wasn't late.

Yesterday, I read a book about a girl that gets diabetes. The book showed a picture of her dinner, it was all vegetables and meat. How many carbs was in the whole dinner? 10.6 carbs, in the entire thing, and her mom wonders why she loses weight ( The story isn't true ) .

I lost my 11th tooth last night. I was a molar, but that didn't mean it was hard to get out! my got out a piece of gause, grabbed hold of the tooth and pulled it out. It literally flew across the room! That wasn't my loosest tooth though. My loosest tooth was when I was just sitting there reading a book and my tooth just falls out! I ran over and went to my mom and she's like, what did you find on the floor? I said, it's my tooth! It was kinda funny.

Almost Summer

Today I'm wearing shorts because it's so warm outside. It's like 80 degrees outside and I didn't have to wear a coat to school. I'm probably gonna wear shorts and a graphic tee almost everyday of the summer. I wish it was gonna be warm like this everyday but my mom says it's going to cool down Thursday or Friday.

Wanna know the highest my blood sugar has ever been? 591. Wanna know the lowest it's ever been? 28.

Sometimes people say 'diabetes' like 'diabeetus'. Either they can't say it right or they're like my mom and just want to say it like that.

Even though I haven't blogged for a while, I don't know what to write. So, bye!

I don't know what to call this

I'm still kinda getting over a bad coughing cold. I missed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and we were taking ITBS tests. Well, now I'll have to make up the nine tests I missed. I only did four. My blood sugars were so high for some reason that I was on a +40% temp. basal. But after we changed my set and got insulin from a new bottle, I don't really need a temp. basal at all!

Blog in color

In school we started CogAT tests today. I thought they would be hard but I'm not sure what they test and why we take them.

I didn't know how my mom put pictures in her blog. but now I think I figured out how, and I'm going to make my blog in color!!! Well starting now. Purple! Purple is my favorite color. This exact color is awesome. see Pink! I think pink is my second favorite color. Blue! I think blue is my third favorite color! OK, light blue! It's pretty, but I can barely it. Red! I also like red, ok I like a lot of colors and knew the colors of the rainbow when I was 2. Orange, ok I think it is more of a gold, and is also very bright. Usually green isn't my favorite color, but this is pretty. Yellow, ok some just hurt my eyes, but I can't even seee yellow, so if I make a mistake it's just because I can't see. But then again, you won't be able to see either!!! Ok now, black again, something I can see, and it doesn't hurt my eyes.

People say I'm really good at paint on the computer so I'll show you a picture I just did. A little kitty!!!

Bad set change

Today we changed pump set. So we got it all ready - which probably took like 7 minutes - then we put it on. And it looked like it was on wrong. So we had to pull it off and try a new one and pick out a new spot to put it. Then that one hurt, like really bad at first. When we bolused for dinner, I thought it probably went in like it usually does, but it turns out it didn't. I thought it buzzed! So we did the bolus again and I am pretty sure it worked.

No homework

We haven't had homework at school since thursday last week. On Friday, we usually don't have homework because of the weekend. On Monday we didn't have homework. Yesterday we went on a fieldtrip to see a play so it was like we didn't have school for half the day. Then I finished all my homework in school because it wasn't a lot. I hope we don't have homework tomorrow!

About 10 minutes before lunch I felt like my blood sugar was low, so I tested. I was 41. Before dinner I was 61 (I think). Why was I so low today?

Today

When my dad woke me up this morning I did not want to get up. The rest of the day I was tired and I had a little headache.

In the afternoon I felt like it was morning and we hadn't eatten lunch yet, but we did. It was just the sky.It looked like  ho it should be in the morning so I got confused. In computer class my wrist got really sore. I don't know why. I think it's because I'm used to typing on my laptop, not a real keyboard.

I lerned how to finger-knit. If you know what a Knitting Jenny is, finger-knitting is kind of like that, but smaller. It's addicting!

Wednesday

On Sunday night we had a band concert, and we will have another one at our school. I know I haven't blogged for a while but I don't know what to write.

Wait, I'll tell you about toontown (read my mom's version of toontown on her blog). Toontown is where you can talk with your friends, and if your bored or don't know what to do you can work on your toontask(s). There are eveil robots called cogs. You defeat them sometimes for a toontask or you can use the gag you're working on and get a higher level gag. You have a laff meter (yes, that IS how you spell it on toontown) too. If you defeat cogs for a long time without going back to the playground you will lose a lot of laff points or even get sad.

Spelling Bee

Today was the spelling bee at school. It wsn't justt fifth grade, it was fourth fifth and sixth grade. I didn't win, a girl in my class did. I got out for... Starch, s-t-a-r-t-c-h, starch. There was a fourth grader that was in till the seven round and a sixth grader that got out in the first round. Last year I got out for... Aspirin, a-s-p-r-i-n, aspirin. At the end of the spelling bee I listened to the championship words (8th grade level) thinking Wow these words are pretty easy. They were the kind of words you read in a book and just remember, words that seem long and hard but are easy when you think about it.

Yesterday was band-day

I just called this post that because well yesterday was band-day and I didn't know what to call it.

Yesterday was band-day of course. Band-day is when we practise our band and I play clarinet, so I practiced all day. In the morning we could have snacks ( snacks that they gave us, like 100 calorie packs ). I had a cheese-itz pack. I thought it was just cheese-itz but it turned out to be a party pack thing. I looked on the back, 14 carbs. When my dad came for lunch, I told him that I had it and he told my mom that I had it and that he thought it was more like 20 carbs. After school I told him the packet said 14.

Just another day

Another thing you should know is that I get allergy shots. I wanted to get them because I'm allergic to cats and I have 2.

Well when I got my allergy shot today 1 didn't seem to hurt. Atleast that's what I thought at first. Then it really hurt.

On Saturday we took my cat to the vet because she would like throw up once and not eat for the rest of the day. We switched her food and that seemed to help. I mean how would you feel if you had the same food for 7years. You would get bored of it. Well that's how she felt. The vet thought she was fine. She seemed better after we switched her food.

On Sunday I had a playdate with my friend Sara. We went shopping. We dropped her mom off at the grocery store and we went shopping ( we had to take them to the grocery store because they don't have a car ).

Friday

Today, a good thing happened and a bad thing happened.

First, I'm in  the school spelling bee! I really wanted to be in the spelling bee. Last year my teacher just chose 5 people. Then she didn't give us the words to study! This year we had spelling bees in our class to find the best people and we should get the words.

Second, a bad thing happened. A boy named Connor that always plays jumprope with us got hurt. He ran through the jumprope when it was going the wrong way. You can still go through a jumprope when it's going the wrong way, you just have to jump over it. He jumped at the wrong ttime and hit his head on the ground. He went to the nurse and then he went to the hospital. The good news is that he came back to school. He got it super glued ( which is like stitches ).

Another day

If you're wondering why I didn't post lastnight, it's because of my band practice. I've played the clarinet for almost like 1 1/2 years. When I found out my friend Sarah was going to play the clarinet too, I was so excited to go to band practice.

Now I'll talk about my cats. I have 2 cats. Ok I'll tell you the story of how we our the cats. Well we got Scrappy because our other cat died and we just had to find another cat. Scrappy ( who was first named Snippy ) was the only cat who was so mello and happy was the cat we picked out. My mom found Scuffy outside her office building with oily paws and a big scratch down his nose. Her friend took him home and washed him up and then we took him home.

Crazy Numbers Day

Well every morning I go down to the nurses office to test my blood sugar.T Today of course I tested my blood sugar at the same time. So when I tested my blood sugar it was 562. Ok that cannot be right. So I tested again and I was 591. Now I was freaking out. So we went home and changed my site ( we were gonna change my site later anyway ). We tested again while we were at ome and I was 454. We also did give a shot of 2 units in case the site wasn't working.

So then I went back to school about 15 minutes before lunch. Then I went to the nurses office to test and I was 394. Then I went back to test before gym and I was 425, huh, I went up. So then I went back to test my blood sugar in the middle of gym and I think it was 359, ok so now it goes down. Then my took me home after school and tried and tried to test my blood sugar but it wouldn't poke me. Then we swiched lancets and then I hardly even even felt it but it gushed blood. Ok no ketones and 154.

By the way, when I was in the nurses office waiting for my dad to pick me up to go home, there was a little boy in there. He asked who my mom was and I told him. He said that he knew where my mom's classroom was. I was like what? I told him that my mom wasn't a teacher. Then I said oh yeah that's my aunt!

Just today

Here is something that might be important, I don't just have diabetes, I have asthma too. My mom wrote it on her blog so it reminded me to write it on mine. By the way, you can see my mom's blog at t1tween.blogspot.com.

Here is what happened last night. I just slept, which is normal, but I just slept I think completely still. Then when my mom woke me up in the morning before she left for work to test my blood sugar I had to go to the bathroom. I had to cough but I figured it would go away. Then what felt like only 5 minutes later ( which was really about a half hour ) my dad woke me up to get ready for school. The cough feeling didn't go away so I coughed and got this weird sour taste.

Ok now it's like 3:30 and I just got out of school and my mom said she has a cold and thinks it's mine ( well the cold I had like a week ago. It was so weird because it made my blood sugar go low insead of high like normal for me. Well she says she doesn't feel good like at all but she seems ok.

This has nothing to do with diabetes but I have a cat named Scruffy. He is so cute ( and dirty, itchy and of course scruffy, well we found him as a stray what do you expect from that ) . He is allergic to chicken and I think beef too. Why is this important? Well, if you have a ca as a pet, try looking at the ingredients in your cat's food. Chicken will probably be 1-10 for ingredients. What happens when he eats chicken? He gets even itchier than he would be.

The day I got diabetes

At about 8:00 AM one morning my babysitter came. I was hungry so I got a jello out of the fridge and ate it. I started to gag while eating it but I kapt on eating. Then I was still hungry so I got a yogurt and ate it. A few minutes later we went outside. I was still hungry so I got a granola bar. While eating it, my mouth was so dry! I was drinking a water bottle but it didn't help much. Then we went to my babysitter's house. Her mom offered me some milk and cookies. I only ate one cookie but drank all of the milk. Then we went to the bank. I got a lollipop. My mouth was so dry so I tried eating it and it didn't help much at all. Then we went to Friendly's for lunch. I got a drink of course and well, after lunch we went bowling. I was so thirsty I drank it all, I even waited for the ice to melt. Then we went to the mall then home. I threw up and then my mom came home. We went to the doctor and my blood sugar was 503. We went to the hospital and after a while they said I could eat and gave me a sugar-free popcicle. It didn't even start melting till like midnight! My mom slept on this sofa/bed thing that she said was really uncomfortable, but it's what they had in the hospital room. The nurse came in like every hour and my mom woke up every time. That is the day I got diabetes.

My life as a type one

Hi I'm Catie. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 8. Well, now I'm 10 and I have an insulin pump. It is so awesome. The first day I went to school with the waistband that held my my pump I was embaressed about having this big thing around my waist, but now I go to school and I don't even think about wearing it.

One thing I like about diabetes? Well candy is medicine, of course! Most people say that sugar tabs are chalky and gross, I think they taste good, but when I get a low blood sugar i want to eat chocolate graham crackers! They are just so good!
